Today I had the honor of presenting my IFS-Informed approach to OCD and anxiety to the MFT Trainees and Associates at Counseling West.
In this training session, we explored the ways in which Internal Family Systems concepts can be integrated into other effective, evidence-based treatment modalities when working with OCD and anxiety disorders. We examined case examples including treatment interventions for Health Anxiety and Social Anxiety, and took a look at practical treatment solutions that include utilizing ERP interventions within an IFS framework.
When dealing with OCD and anxiety, our internal system of parts get into this unrelenting cycle of trying to manage things then trying to put out the fire when uncertainty and anxiety get triggered. Through the lens of multiplicity, we find that honoring these parts, befriending them, and releasing them from their extreme roles can restore balance and harmony to the system. I was delighted to see how useful these concepts are for the next generation of MFTs and their clients!
I am pleased to announce that I will be offering this training for training sites, treatment centers, and group practices moving forward. Please contact me to discuss training options on an IFS-informed approach to OCD and anxiety.
